A Canoeing Adventure
on the Current River in Southern Missouri. The Current River is the most
spring fed of all the Ozarks Rivers and can be floated year round. There
are several caves and large springs on the Current River with excellent
gravel bars for overnight floaters. Wildlife is abundant with many species
to be seen along the river.
The Current is an easy
to medium river. It is classified as a Class I, occasionally Class
II River. Average gradient is 4.4 feet per mile. Comfortable
canoeing speed is 2 1/2 miles an hour. Upper water temperature on
the Current ranges from 58° to 65°. |
To reach Silver Arrow
Canoe Rental from St. Louis, take I-44 West. Turn East on U.S. 68 at
St.James (Exit 195) to Salem, then U.S. 19 South of Salem for 17
miles to Silver Arrow. To reach Silver Arrow from Kansas City, take
I-70 East to Columbia, then South on U.S. 63 to Rolla. Take U.S. 72
East to Salem, then U.S. 19 South out of Salem 17 miles to Silver
Arrow.
